STEP 2
INITIAL SCREENING
Once we’ve received your application, HCSO HR will conduct an initial screening to assess your suitability for the position. This may involve reviewing your resume, conducting an initial background check, and verifying your qualifications. Candidates who meet our initial criteria will proceed to the next stage of the process.
STEP 3
TESTING & INTERVIEW
Selected candidates for sworn and sworn-certified positions will be invited to participate in physical agility and written examinations designed to assess their knowledge, skills, and abilities relevant to the position. Successful performance in these assessments is essential for advancing to the next stage.
After completing the physical agility and written test, candidates may be invited to interview in front of a panel.
There is no physical agility or written testing for civilian positions, only interview.

STEP 4
BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION
Candidates who successfully complete the interview and any needed physical agility and written testing will undergo a comprehensive background investigation. This investigation will include checks of employment history, criminal record, credit history, and personal references. We place great importance on integrity, honesty, and ethical conduct; candidates must meet our high standards in these areas.
STEP 5
CONDITIONAL PRE-HIRE TESTING
Conditional Pre-Hire Testing: Candidates who successfully complete all stages of the hiring process may receive a conditional offer of employment from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. This offer is contingent upon the successful completion of additional requirements, such as medical examinations, drug screenings, and psychological evaluations.
STEP 6
FINAL OFFER & ONBOARDING
Upon completion of the pre-hire testing, candidates may receive a final offer of employment which will detail the salary, benefits, and start date. After beginning with the HCSO, new hires will receive training needed for their position.
Law Enforcement new hires will complete the HCSO Field Training Officer program and attend any other training needed for their position.
Corrections Deputies will begin the HCSO Corrections Academy, which is a comprehensive in-house, training program that covers a wide range of topics, including corrections techniques, firearms training, defensive tactics, and de-escalation techniques.
